Looking for a way to connect with the Evanston community, support local businesses all while taking in the warmer weather? Well, get ready for the Evanston Farmer’s Market opening next Saturday, May 8! This largely popular community experience offers the freshest fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, bakery items and flowers from over 30 vendors! Many residents and friends from surrounding areas flock to this exuberant atmosphere where live musicians entertain the crowds during their relaxed shopping experience.
New things have been added to this year’s market and attests to Evanston’s desire to keep growing and improving. The Illinois Department of Human Services has approved those who receive cash assistance or food stamps to receive an Illinois Link Card which allows them to buy at the market. Another addition to this years’ market is that disposable bags will be provided to all shoppers in an effort to make the market a little “greener.”
Want to give back to the Evanston community and be involved? Become part of “Friends of the Market”! This volunteer group helps to ensure that everything at the market runs smoothly and offers an outlet to serve in the community.
As always, events such as “Now We’re Cookin” and “Homegrown Artists” will take place throughout the seven month market which runs every Saturday from 7:30am to 1pm from May 8 to November 6. For more information, visit the Evanston Farmer’s Market website.
